Speakeasy
The speakeasy is an evening gathering where a particular theological issue is presented, discussed and debated. This will be occurring once a quarter on the 5th Sunday evening of the month.
Why do we call it the speakeasy? Well that's a good question. During prohibition, speakeasies were places where you could go and enjoy a cocktail on the DL. If you went into one of these establishments and boldly asked for an alcoholic beverage the bar tender would remind you to "speak easy" as there might be some G-Men in the joint just looking to shut the operation down.
We believe that there are many areas of doctrine that Christians have been encouraged, by the theologically impotent American Evangelical culture, to regard as largely non-essential for the sake of preserving alleged unity in the Christian Church. To this we reply, "Nothing that our Lord has graciously revealed to His Church in the Scriptures is unessential for Church unity or Christian living." We are going to discuss issues such as the Lord's Supper, Baptism, Christian Sabbath and other potentially emotionally charged and historically divisive doctrinal issues...but we are going to attempt to do it with gentleness and charity. This is why we call it the speakeasy... and let's be honest...there will probably be some beverages there to enjoy as well.
Double check the calendar to find out when the next speakeasy is planned, or if you want to stay hip and easy, find out by word of mouth.
